PAID MEMBERSHIPS The year 2001 generated 38 paid Regular memberships and 5 paid Associate memberships. This was down from 2000’s stats of 47 regular and 5 Associate paid members. As mentioned elsewhere in this newsletter, the web site is being utilized regularly by a greater number of people than the number paying their annual dues. Also, as reported below, dues failed to cover the cost of operations in 2001. This has happened in two of the past four years. As those who continue to pay regularly know, the $20 cost of dues has not been changed in seven years. Furthermore, access to the web site and newsletters continue to be offered free to anyone owning a 9.1 Meter, regardless of membership status. It has been noted that the web site can be made accessible to only paid members, but it remains our goal to keep this service free to anyone sharing our common interests. FINANCES The Class continues to be solvent, although revenue from memberships in 2001 failed to cover the ongoing cost of operation. The Class’ annual cost of operation is approximately 900-1000 dollars. This covers the cost of US Sailing Member Class dues, web site hosting, domain name fees, printing and distribution of the newsletter and Class trophies. It should be noted that the cost of operations has not increased in several years. By switching from newsletters and isolated archives to web-based communications, the Class continues to deliver an ever-growing level of service to its members without added expense. As of January, 2002, the Class had approximately $1000 on hand, less than was on hand one year ago. This “reserve” will continue to drop if dues do not cover annual expenses. Obviously, we need paying members to continue providing these services and value to owners free of charge. |
