Freddie, the holes in your keel are probably windows installed by the factory so that lead in the keel could be removed in this area. If I am not mistaken, this was a customary practice among the old IOR rules. Since the 9.1s came into their own just as the IOR crowd was on their way out, the holes were simply filled with something light and epoxied over. Over time water invariably leaks in. If you do not care too much about the weight of the water, nothing much needs to be done (water won't affect the lead too much). However, it will leak into the rest of the fiberglass (if you have any) below this part of the keel. |
