I can't speak to the "heat" issue, but my first thought re odor is to check your exhaust manifold for leaks. We run our engine for up to 16 sraight hours on very long deliveries and have no odor in the cabin. You might also check the bilge area under the engine, it doesn't drain into the main bilge above the keel - so you may have some fuel sloshing around in the area under thepermanent floor at the base of the steps. We have an exra bilge pump in this area. Also, if you're leaking fuel anywhere on the engine, it will obviously get hot on the engine block and smell - check your fuel system for leaks. If you explore ventilating, be careful not to choose a location where water could wash in... avoid the cockpit. The stern may work, but I'd be careful to keep any thru-openings as high as possible (following seas). Again, we don't sem to have trouble with excessive heat, the key word being excessive. I have never seen a 9.1 with ventilation. In either case, consulting a yard expert is always a good idea. www.torresen.com will take you to a dealer on the Great Lakes that does global Yanmar service via the internet - they may have answers for you. Their phone number is 231-759-8596. |
