On June 9-10, the first event of the 2007 S2 9.1 Meter Lake Michigan season found only three boats in attendance. While this meant that the event will not count towards the 2007 Lake Michigan season championship, it didn't keep Class competitors from effectively using this regatta as a five race warm-up for the following week's upcoming Chicago NOOD Regatta. Two veteran (original owner) 9.1 Meters (Greg Young's Spectra and Dick English's Tenacity) were joined by newcomers Dave & Chris Timmer aboard Desperado. An Express 27 and an S27.9 joined them to form a PHRF division at this event. Unfortunately, local South Haven S2 9.1 Meter sailor Chris Sundberg and his crew on Stimulator were unable to attend due to family obligations. Three of the competing boats hail from Muskegon MI where they are always close - and this weekend was no different. Three of the five boats had bullets and the entire top four had seconds, thirds and fourths. In the end, the Express 27 and Desperado ended up going two layers into the tie-breaker rule to determine first overall - - with Spectra only 3 points back. One highlight of the regatta was when Desperado won the third race by a commanding 6 minute margin! South Haven has often been a popular stop on the Lake Michigan S2 9.1 Meter "tour" - dating back to the early 90's. This popular resort town offers great entertainment and dining in close proximity to the docks. 1 S29.1 Desperado Timmer 2 2 1 1 4 total 10 2 Express27 1 1 3 2 3 total 10 3 S29.1 Spectra Young 3 3 2 4 1 total 13 4 S29.1 Tenacity English 4 4 4 3 2 total 17 5 S27.9 5 5 5 6 6 total 27 |
