2000 ANNUAL CLASS MEETING REPORT

The 2000 Annual Class Meeting took place at Chicago’s Navy Pier on Saturday, February 5, 2000. In attendance were over forty people representing well over a dozen boats. The following is a brief summary of the meeting.

1. OLD BUSINESS

MEMBERSHIP
Class Commodore Scott Corder reported that paid memberships were down slightly over past years due mostly to the absence of newsletters. It was noted that the Class web site was and would continue to result in paid memberships. (Commodore’s note: paid memberships for 2000 have already exceeded 1999 totals). It was noted thatin spite of the slight dip in paid memberships, the Class continues to hear from previously unknown S2 9.1 owners.

WEB SITE UPDATE
It was reported that the Class web site has attracted many visitors and several previously unknown owners. Class Webmaster Russ Fender gave a brief overview of the initial and ongoing cost for software and other services. Russ also indicated that the Class would receive better hosting if we agreed to pay for this service versus free hosting. Loren Thompson moved that the Class Officers be given permission to spend up to $300 dollars annually on the web site. Eric Oesterle seconded the motion which passed unanimously. Russ then reviewed the current and future features and design of the web site. While many were already in place, others were still under development. Primary among those features discussed were use of the bulletin board as the primary means of communication between members and the anticipated ability of members to establish individual profiles and take advantage of automatic email notification whenever messages are posted to the bulletin board. Posting of photographs and Class sportswear offerings on the web site were also discussed.

CLASS HANDBOOK
At the 1999 Class Meeting, a motion was approved that would have resulted in a Class Handbook containing information gathered by the Class to date. Scott Corder reported that no progress had been made on this matter due to efforts to establish the web site. It was noted that the web site will be a much more timely and efective tool for archiving information relevant to members. A motion to disregard development of a handbook was unanimously approved.

CLASS RULES
The Rules Committee reported on their efforts to update the Class Rules. Several issues were discussed at length with many votes taking place on individual items. Because some of these changes needed subtle refinement and final wording, it was unanimously decided that the Rules Committee would complete the changes and they would be posted to the web site where they would be automatically approved after a thirty day waiting period during which members could express objections. The Class Rules were posted to the web site earlier this Spring and their now approved form can be found elsewhere in the bulletin board section of the Class web site. The Rules Committee was commended for a fine effort on these efforts.

CLASS SPORTSWEAR
No report was made beyond noting that the Class continues to offer monogramming of nearly any item imaginable. Members were encouraged to contact Greg Young regarding any sportswear interests.

2. NEW BUSINESS

2000 RACING SCHEDULE
The Class discussed several options for a Great Lakes Seasonal Series of races. Regattas discussed included the South Haven Invitational, Chicago NOOD, Milwaukee Grand Prix, Muskegon Governors Cup, Chicago Verve Cup, Boaters World Regatta and Racine Hook Race. Eric Oesterle moved that the 2000 Great Lakes Championship consist of the same four events as in past years (South Haven Invitational, Chicago NOOD, Milwaukee Grand Prix, Muskegon Governors Cup). Scoring and trophies would remain the same as in years past. Russ Fender seconded the motion which passed unanimously.

Chris Sundberg moved that the Racine Hook Race be offered as a "bonus" event if a minimum of four boats started the race. If this condition were met, Class members could choose to use their finish scores in this event in place of scores at other Series events for calculation of their Great Lakes Championship total. The total number of scored races for the Series Championship would remain as determined in previous years. Eric Oesterle seconded the motion which passed.

Loren Thompson then moved that the 2000 Chicago NOOD Regatta be designated the 2000 North American Class Championship with trophies remaining the same as in past years. Chris Sundberg seconded the motion which passed.

RULES COMMITTEE
Commodore Scott Corder appointed new members to the Rules Committee. Committee members now include Chris Sundberg, Mike Greenwald and Gary Hendrickson.

OFFICERS AND DEFINITIONS
The Class Officers remain in office. Scott Corder: Commodore. Loren Thompson: Vice Commodore. Greg Young: Secretary and Sportswear. Russ Fender: Webmaster. Scott Corder continues to handles the duties of Treasurer.

Scott instructed the Rules Committee to review the current title and definitions for the Class Officers to better reflect actual roles and responsibilities. A report will be made at the next Annual Meeting.

OTHER MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS AND DISCUSSIONS
Gary Hendrickson presented information regarding LMSRF affiliation. After much discussion, it was decided that further consideration be given to this issue before the Class takes any action.

Participation at Great Lakes and other regattas around the country was discussed at length. It was reported that Freddie Narvaez of Texas was moving and would be joining the Great Lakes fleet in 2000. Several crewing and chartering opportunities were discussed including the 2000 SORC and 2001 Key West Regattas.

The meeting was adjourned and members then toured the Strictly Sail Expo.
