The S2 9.1 Meter North American One Design Class Association was founded, in its current form in 1992. Several organizational efforts existed previously, but changes in interest and ownership thwarted the large scale success of these primarily regional groups.

From 1992 until 1994, the Class consisted of a handful of owners on Lake Michigan who organized themselves primarily to compete as a Class at the early Chicago NOOD regattas.

In the winter of 1994-95, four members of this group gathered during a severe blizzard in South Haven, Michigan to discuss ways to expand the scope and benefit of the Class. A nation-wide search for boats was initiated and a regular newsletter soon found its way into the mail to a list of about twenty people.

Since 1994, active Class membership has grown to represent nearly half of the boats built, with members living in all areas of North America and a mailing list of nearly one hundred addresses.

The success of the Class is now evidenced in this web-site. Class activities include acting as the owner's principal liaison with the factory, a frequent multi-page newsletter, monogrammed Class sportswear, an annual winter Class meeting, an annual North American One Design Championship, an annual Great Lakes One Design Championship Series, a growing archive of useful reference information and a rapidly growing nation-wide dialog amongst its many members.
